Jay Lucas Chacon is a baritone from Phoenix AZ, currently residing in NYC. Jay recently performed Inkeeper/Governor in Man of La Mancha with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre and Figaros in the Paisiello Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Le Nozze di Figaro with dell’Arte Opera Ensemble and Opera Company of Brooklyn, respectively. Upcoming engagements include covering Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with Opera Company of Brooklyn and covering Schaunard in La Bohéme with Saint Petersburg Opera.
Jay has also performed with Utopia Opera, Austin Opera, Union Avenue Opera, and Winter Opera St. Louis as well the training programs Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria; the Franco American Vocal Academy in Perigord, France; and Spotlight on Opera in Austin TX. Favorite roles include the title role in Gianni Schicchi, Guglielmo in Cosí fan tutte, Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, Sam in Trouble in Tahiti, and Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus.
An active recitalist, Jay has performed a number of thematic programs. From Bach to Berg; a Tribute to Dietrich Fischer Dieskau has been among his most frequent performed, most recently at Cornelia St. Café in Greenwich Village. In St. Louis, MO, Jay was a mainstay at Tavern of Fine Arts where he performed American Composer: Jake Heggie featuring his song cycle A Question of Light, Música Hispánica, and Way off Broadway as well as a private event featuring Vaughnn Williams Songs of Travel and Poulenc’ Les Bestiaire. Jay has studied at Northern Arizona University and Mesa College with Metropolitan Opera tenor William Lewis and Dr. Glenn Bennett, respectively and currently studies with Alexandra LoBianco.
