A young vibrant talent, tenor John Kaneklides has been described as “richly mellifluous.” Most recently, he was praised for his “ringing tenor” as Alfredo in La Traviata with the Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra. Critics raved that “his commitment to the character” and his “young yet manly sound” are “one to watch.”
John’s recent roles include Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Laurie in Little Women and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. He has performed on the stages of Carnegie Hall, Caramoor Bel Canto Opera, Opera Carolina, Opera North, Delaware Valley Opera and many more. Equally at home in musical theatre, John has performed Fred, Bill, & Paul in various productions of Kiss Me Kate and was seen as Quale in South Pacific with Opera North.
John has received several prestigious awards, including the Raphael Bundage Young Artist Award from the Orpheus National Competition. He also garnered Second Prize from the Opera Guild of Charlotte Competition. Additionally, John received honors from the Liederkranz Foundation, the Metropolitan Opera National Council and the Nico Castel International Master Singer Competition.
Recent highlights include Alfredo in La Traviata, Rodolfo in La Bohème, as well as several concerts across the United States. John is excited to return to St. Petersburg Opera Company’s production of SOUTH PACIFIC after his role last season in Turandot, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back. www.johnkaneklides.com
