Versatile coloratura soprano Kelli Butler is quickly making her mark on the opera world, appearing recently in concert for The Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Bel Canto at Caramoor, Die Zauberflőte for the Martina Arroyo Foundation, in recital at Teatro Alfieri, Die Fledermaus for New Rochelle Opera, and Trouble in Tahiti and Il trionfo dell’onore for Underworld Opera. In 2008, Ms. Butler was a finalist Altamura/Caruso International Opera Festival and debuted that same year as Valencienne in The Merry Widow under the baton of Maestro Anton Coppola. In 2016, Ms. Butler created the role of the District Attorney in renowned composer Anthony Davis’ new opera Five, based on the Central Park Five rape case of 1989 and the miscarriage of justice that followed. The opera and premiere were featured in a PBS documentary chronicling its creation. This season brings an exciting house debut with St. Petersburg Opera in a signature role as Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte. Ms. Butler is an alumnus of SUNY Purchase Opera Conservatory and continues her studies with both acclaimed mezzo-soprano Shirley Love and lauded Canadian soprano Susan Eichhorn Young. She resides in New York with her husband, Justin, and her cat Bones.
