Sahoko Sato Timpone is a native of Tokyo who grew up in Germany and the U.S. Highlights of her 2016/17 season include Mercédès in Carmen with Opera Maine (formerly PORTOpera), Zita in Gianni Schicchi and Opera Gala Concert with the Opera Camerata of Washington, concert at the American Musicological Society Conference in Vancouver, appearance in the New York premiere of Carlisle Floyd’s Prince of Players with the Little Opera Theatre of New York, revival of critically acclaimed Off-Broadway ¡Figaro 90210! as Sun-Yi Nam (Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro) and soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Canadian Chamber Orchestra of NYC.
Previously, she has performed with Baltimore Opera, Syracuse Opera, Tokyo Opera Nomori, Saito Kinen Festival, Seiji Ozawa Ongakujuku Opera, Berkshire Opera Company, Chautauqua Opera, Nevada Opera Theatre in roles including Suzuki, Cherubino, Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), Hansel, Orlofsky and Dorabella. As a concert soloist she has appeared with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields at Carnegie Hall, Seattle, Oregon, West Virginia, Chautauqua, Singapore and Sapporo Symphonies and New York Symphonic Ensemble.
She earned her degrees in Vocal Performance and in Vocal Pedagogy from the New England Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music and received her DMA from Rutgers University. In her spare time she enjoys studying Japanese Tea Ceremony and Japanese classical dance and is also a licensed kimono dresser. She is currently on the faculty at Florida State University as the Assistant Professor of Voice. SPO welcomes Dr. Timpone to her St. Petersburg debut as Marthe.
