Career Opportunities Available!

We are currently hiring two part-time assistants: Marketing & Development Assistant and Box Office Assistant. Both are flexible, hourly positions (5-10 hours per week), which may be consolidated into one should the appropriate candidate present him/herself. Please read below for more information. Marketing & Development Assistant

St. Petersburg Opera Co. (SPO) is looking for an eager and enthusiastic part-time assistant to perform duties as assigned by our Development and Marketing Managers. We are looking for someone passionate about the arts with a pleasing personality, exceptional organizational skills, and a creative approach to life.

Reporting to our home of Opera Central (2145 1st Avenue South), you will be assisting with writing and designing content on select email marketing campaigns, updating and linking to social media accounts, proofreading and editing materials and brochures, updating contact databases, preparing media materials for distribution, and performing general office clerk duties and errands, as needed.

Travel to off-site performance locations in Pinellas County and surrounding areas may be necessary at times, so a mode of transportation is imperative. In order for you to be selected as a candidate, you will need the ability to write clearly and be proficient with word processing applications. Work with donor database software, social media and email marketing platforms highly valued. This is a part-time position and hours vary based on our production schedule*.

Job Title: Marketing & Development Assistant
Reporting to: Assoc. Director of Development
Hours: 5-10 hours a week*
Salary: $12-$15 commensurate with experience

Marketing & Development Assistant responsibilities:

  • Be knowledgeable about current and upcoming SPO activities and undertake daily administrative tasks to ensure the functionality and coordination of the company’s activities.
  • Provide general administrative support to senior managers.
  • Write and design content on select email marketing campaigns via ConstantContact.
  • Maintain guest lists, gather and prepare registration materials and other duties as assigned for fund-raising events.
  • Prepare media materials for distribution. (i.e. copying, filing, mailing, e-mailing)
  • Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings.
  • Update spreadsheets, databases and inventories with statistical, financial and non-financial information.
  • Assist in the organizing of promotional events and traditional or digital campaigns and attend them to facilitate their success.
  • Compose and post online content on the company’s website and social media accounts.
  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate foundation and individual donors.
  • Update and link to social media accounts, proofread and edit materials and brochures, update contact databases, preparing media materials for distribution, and perform general office clerk duties and errands as needed.
  • Handle incoming calls and other communications with the highest standard of customer service.
  • Maintaining a calm and kind demeanor in a fast-paced environment.

Marketing & Development Assistant requirements:

  • High school diploma or associate’s degree, or similar level of experience in the field.
  • Good understanding of office management and non-profit principles.
  • Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of ConstantContact, WordPress or other website design experience, and an active presence on Social Media platforms a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and under limited supervision.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver license.

Box Office Assistant

St. Petersburg Opera Co. (SPO) is looking for a part-time Box Office Assistant. We are looking for someone passionate about the arts, with a pleasing personality and strong communication skills who can deliver exceptional customer service.

Working with the Box Office Manager, you will act as the principle point of contact for SPO. You will be expected to provide the highest level of courtesy to our patrons on the telephone, via email, and in person at our home of Opera Central (2145 1st Avenue South), in order to maximize sales for SPO.

The Box Office assistant will handle incoming phone calls and other communications, greet clients and visitors, manage files, and perform general office clerk duties and errands, as needed. Travel to off-site performance locations in Pinellas County and surrounding areas may be necessary at times, so a mode of transportation is necessary. In order for you to be selected as a candidate, you will need the ability to write clearly and be proficient with word processing applications. Work with ticketing software or donor databases a plus. Office Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Handling incoming calls and other communications with the highest standard of customer service.
  • Selling tickets for SPO productions and events, including single ticket sales and subscription processing.
  • Greeting clients and visitors in a warm and helpful manner.
  • Being knowledgeable about current and upcoming SPO activities.
  • Actively promoting and up-selling SPO events and offerings to patrons.
  • Working within ThunderTix ticketing software, MS Word and Excel to track patrons for mainstage performances, community outreach shows, galas, and events.
  • Preparing tickets for mailing and will-call window.
  • Producing sales reports and
  • Supporting Box Office Manager and front of house staff at select events and performances.
  • Ensuring Box Office is tidy and well-presented, and that leaflets, brochures, and other relevant materials are on display and available to patrons and visitors.
  • Maintaining a calm and kind demeanor in a fast-paced environment.

An ideal candidate will be someone responsible, dependable, and trustworthy, with great attention to detail and effective conflict resolution skills.

Box Office Assistant Requirements:

  • High school diploma or associate’s degree, or similar level of experience in the field.
  • Experience as an office assistant or in related field.
  • Ability to write clearly and help with word processing when necessary.
  • Warm personality with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and under limited supervision.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Have a valid driver license.
