Based on a Russian folk tale, Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) combines chamber music, narration, dance and theater to relate the time-tested parable of a man who sells his soul to the devil.
Appropriately, this legendary work is the centerpiece of St. Pete Opera’s Creative Collaborations, Saturday, March 9 at Opera Central. Maestro Sforzini will conduct a small chamber group; Karl Hesser is the narrator, with dancer Vanessa Russo and actors Matt Acquard and Paula Broadwater.
Creative Collaborations touches a number of musical bases. Maestro Sforzini joins forces with fellow bassoonists Joshua Baker, Daryn Bauer and Maurizio Venturini for a selection of classical and popular quartets. Also on the program: A brass quintet performing the works of composer Viktor Ewald.
We’re also thrilled to include a unique duo performance by standup bassist Lloyd Goldstein and banjo player Joshua Paul, collaborating on music from an array of composers straddling the classical and popular worlds.
We’ll look forward to seeing you at 7:30 p.m. March 9 for this exquisite, one-of-a-kind musical cornucopia. General seating tickets are $25; premium table seating is available for $40. Purchase tickets here!
Creative Collaborations is sponsored by Bill Ward.
